  • Searching (2018)

The Set-Up: After the death of his wife, David's relationship with his daughter, Margot, has become increasingly estranged. One day, Margot goes missing, and Detective Rosemary Vick is assigned to help track her down.

David and Vick learn Margot was chatting online with a woman named “fish_n_chips,” but Vick eventually finds out fish_n_chips is innocent and living in Pittsburgh, PA.

Margot's car is then found in a lake, but her body isn't inside. Eventually, Vick tells David that an ex-convict confessed to killing Margot before he took his own life.

The Twist: After David realizes the picture of fish_n_chips Vick sent him is a stock photo, Vick reveals that her son, Robert, was the person catfishing Margot online. The two met up near the lake where her car was ultimately found and got into a fight, which culminated in Robert pushing Margot off of a cliff.

Vick helped Robert cover up the crime and staged the ex-convict's confession. Vick then admits Margot's body is still in the ravine, but if the fall didn't kill her, she likely died of dehydration in the past five days.

Luckily, it rained on the third day of the search, giving Margot enough water to survive, allowing the father and daughter to reunite for a second attempt at fixing their relationship.

  • Buried (2010)

The Set-Up: Paul Conroy is buried alive in Iraq with only a few objects on his body, including a lighter and a dying cell phone. Conroy manages to contact the head of the Hostage Working Group, Dan Brenner, who tells him they're working to find him, and that a man named Mark White was recently rescued from a similar situation.

After explosions damage Conroy's coffin, sand slowly begins trickling in, shortening the amount of time Conroy can survive inside. Just when he starts to think all hope is lost, Brenner calls Conroy and tells him his team has found him and is currently attempting to dig him out.

The Twist: The team realizes they're at the wrong burial site when they instead dig up Mark White's coffin - the man Brenner told Conroy survived. He apologizes to Conroy as the sand fills the coffin and the light goes out.

  • The Visit (2015)

The Set-Up: Teen siblings Becca and Tyler meet their grandparents for the first time during a five-day visit to their isolated farm. When they arrive, they're told to never go in the basement and never leave their room at night.

After several strange occurrences, the siblings hide a camera in the living room to see what takes place in the house at night, only for the grandmother to discover it. She then attempts to break into their bedroom with a knife.

The Twist: Becca and Tyler FaceTime their mother to convince her to pick them up, but when she catches a glimpse of their hosts, she informs Becca and Tyler that they aren't the kids' grandparents.

In the end, Becca and Tyler learn the elderly couple are escaped patients of a psychiatric hospital where their real grandparents worked; they killed the real Nana and Pop Pop and hid their bodies in the basement.

The coroner and his son begin the woman's autopsy and notice several strange injuries: Several of her bones are shattered, her tongue has been cut out, her lungs are blackened, and symbols are written on the inside of her skin.

The Twist: Jane Doe is somehow still alive. She's also a likely innocent woman who was transformed into an immortal witch during the Salem witch trials.

The coroner offers himself as a sacrifice in order to save his son from the undead woman's wrath. He suffers similar injuries to those inflicted upon her during the witch trials, all while her wounds begin to heal.

The next morning, police find both the father and son dead.

    I See You (2019)

    I See You (2019)

The Set-Up: Detective Greg Harper reopens a serial killer case when a 10-year-old boy goes missing under mysterious circumstances. Incidentally, Harper's wife recently had an affair with a man named Todd, and their son now hates her for it.

Meanwhile, strange, seemingly paranormal events are taking place at the Harper house - and eventually, Todd is murdered.

The Twist: Mindy and Alec, two “phroggers” - people who secretly live in someone else's house without permission - are living in the Harpers' walls, and Alec is responsible for most of the mysterious events.

The film also reveals Detective Greg Harper is both the serial killer and Todd's murderer, and Alec was one of two boys who escaped his kidnapping years prior.

  • Devil (2010)

The Set-Up: A skyscraper's elevator suddenly stops, trapping five people inside: a security guard, a mechanic, a salesman, a young woman, and an old lady. When the elevator turns into a crime scene, Detective Bowden gradually begins to suspect that one of the people might be the Devil.

The group is eventually killed off one by one: first the salesman, second the old lady, next the security guard, and then finally the young woman, leaving only the mechanic.

The Twist: The mechanic isn't the Devil - the old lady is. Fearing for his life, the mechanic confesses to participating in a fatal hit-and-run five years prior, not knowing he killed Detective Bowden's wife and son. Because the mechanic repented, the Devil disappears.
